Glen Cove is a City on the grow. From Glen Cove’s waterfront redevelopment to the revitalization of our downtown, 2016 will be a watershed moment for smart growth in our municipality. Through successful public-private partnerships and the support of the County and State agencies, we are getting ready to break ground on a $1 billion redevelopment project. That effort will put 56 acres of highly desirable waterfront property back on the tax roll while continuing the revitalization of our downtown with a mixed-used development – The Piazza Project – featuring rental units, retail and restaurants to bring more vibrancy to downtown Glen Cove.
Our vision is simple – Make Glen Cove a destination for commerce, recreation, entertainment and waterfront living; and infuse our local economy with new jobs, tax revenues and residents – from young professionals and empty nesters to families who appreciate the benefits of an affordable suburban City with beautiful land and sandy beaches.
Here is an overview of Glen Cove’s growth and development projects:
The Waterfront Project
The Garvies Point Waterfront Redevelopment will transform what was once a barren and polluted 56 acre superfund site into a bold new waterfront community. Working with the Glen Cove Planning Board, key environmental and government groups, the proposed plan will provide open spaces for recreational and cultural events and new residential housing opportunities. A work in progress, the current plan includes 1,100 residential units (110 units are a combination of rental and condominiums and 105 units will be set aside for affordable housing), 50,000 square feet of commercial office space, and 25,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, and cultural space. There will be 28 acres of open public space which will include a waterfront esplanade, marinas, parks, playgrounds, waterfront recreational activities and open green spaces. This project is certainly one of the largest of its kind and will forever transform Glen Cove’s underutilized waterfront property into a highly attractive waterfront destination which will bring 465 new jobs during the construction phase and 545 jobs post-completion. There will also be new tax revenues and new money infused into the Glen Cove economy.
The Ferry Project
After discussing key concerns with ferry operators the City is now poised to release the request for proposal with the completion of the ferry building and alternate parking options are also under consideration.

The Piazza Project
Glen Cove’s Piazza Project is slated to re-develop a blighted area of our downtown community. The beautifully designed a mixed use development will feature a 12,000 square foot decorative brick plaza, 110 rental units (10% will be affordable housing), and 25,000 square feet of new retail shops, restaurants, and services. A key component of the revitalization will be linking downtown Glen Cove to the waterfront. Demolition of the pre-existing buildings has already begun and residents got their first taste of what the Piazza will offer with the opening of Panera Bread Restaurant in May, 2015.
Glen Cove’s Mill Pond
With grant funding, Glen Cove’s Mill Pond (located to the right of the Glen Cove Fire Department) is currently being dredged and restored to its natural beauty.
